This weekend has been exciting! Monday started off pretty slow – I spent most of my time organising boxes of magazines into groups by issue. I then made drop offs of each issue to cafes around popular areas such as Ponsonby and New Market. However, Tuesday and Friday were a lot more interesting.
On Tuesday I was assigned a written task which involved creating a lifestyle article for the online side of Remix. I was provided with the topic and some start-up information to help me understand the angle they wanted me to take. The article was about a man who designed the food product ‘bangerritos’; sausages that taste like burritos. I love Mexican food and I love writing, so writing about Mexican food was the perfect job to hand over to me. Basically I started off by conducting research on the man behind the creation - I wrote about his serving suggestions, his plans for the future, where the products could be purchased from, and how successful they had been since they started being sold in December.
I was given a word limit of 250 words which I found easy to achieve due to facing word limits all throughout my degree at Unitec. This made it easy for me to complete the job swiftly. I also felt as though my writing had adjusted more to the Remix language as I was writing this piece.
Then on Friday, I was informed by Steven that Remix would be throwing a party to celebrate the release of their latest magazine issue. I was assigned the job of researching under the radar musical talent, Instagram idols, YouTube sensations, designers, and bloggers to place on the invite list. I also chose to invite important people within the media – such as radio presenters and magazine editors. The general idea was to put together an extensive list of all different New Zealand talent, and attempt to find their email addresses in order to invite them. This was an interesting experience because it allowed for me to discover many important people within New Zealand who I was not previously aware of. It was also helpful learning how to conduct the appropriate research in order to develop this list. I had to access Instagram pages, search through YouTube, and look through Facebook event pages and on online blogs. It was a time-consuming job but I was pleased with the result – I managed to hand an extensive list of a mix of New Zealanders to Isabelle at the end of the day, with most members’ email addresses attached. When I went home I found myself conducting even further research to discover more names because I felt like I had been on such a roll.
Overall, this week allowed for me to dabble with a number of different jobs, once again providing me with a variety of new skills.
I can now add the following skills to my CV: - Ability to swiftly and accurately meet word limits for written work
