My Coachella piece went up this week!
This week has been a complete mix of activities. During my first day at the office this week I sat in on a meeting between Steven, Isabelle, and Tim Phin, who were discussing ideas for content in the next issue. It was really interesting being able to watch an actual meeting take place, as I had assumed it would have been a lot more formal. However, he tone was completely playful, which made me feel very at ease being a part of it all. I stayed quiet for most of it – I did not have many ideas to contribute as I had not been kept in the loop about what sort of angle they wished to take for the next magazine. Instead, I observed the dynamics of the meeting, the communication styles and others’ ideas. It would have been nice to have been more involved in the discussion process, perhaps being asked what I thought about certain ideas, etc. Next time I have this opportunity, I will attempt to contribute my own ideas, even if it is in the form of critiquing others’ ideas.
Following the meeting, the team had new leads on contacts for stories and magazine content. However, they lacked contact details for finding further information – this is where I came in. I was provided with a list of things to discover – such as how to contact Lena Dunham’s agent, how to get a hold of one of Kylie Jenner’s mates, what the name was of the latest NZ cookbook to be released in Whitcouls, etc. This research was harder than I thought – I found myself actually having to make phone calls to actually get answers. I provided the team with all the information I could find, however, some of the requests they made I was unable to complete due to a lack of available information. I did go to extreme lengths however, like scrolling through endless posts on Lena’s Instagram page to see if she had made any posts with or about her agent, and going through twitter accounts to find contact information.
I also did a number of pick-ups and drop-offs this week, and am becoming very familiar with all of Remix’s contacts now because of it. I've even started to share banter and build playful relationships through it.
As for written work, I was assigned two written projects this week, the firs being a piece on WORLD’s new autumn collection for men. For this, I did my research on each individual item to identify a pattern for materials, styles, etc in order to sum up the overall range This piece will be going online within the week.
The second piece was about Kathryn Wilson’s ‘Famous Five’ collection; a collection of 5 shoes which Kathryn considers her all-time favourite, named after her 5 muses that inspired the designs. This piece will also be going up online.
