This week I was given two written jobs. The first was on a graffiti artist duo from New Zealand, who was sent to Hawaii to attend the POW WOW! Arts festival. I first conducted research on the kiwi duo, then on the reason for why they were sponsored to travel to Hawaii. I also conducted research on the festival itself, which I found fascinating. Once again, I had absolutely no knowledge of this festival, even though it attracted great crowds each year. I structured my information into a short article, first focusing on the duo themselves, then ending with a short description of what the festival was all about.
I even added photos before sending the document off to Steven. He then told me that he had another piece, one that must be completed urgently. I was told that it would be an online piece for their fashion section.
Steven gave me a USB with an excessive amount of information on a number of different CASIO watches from their latest release. My task was to decode and extract the key information from the techy masses of information on the different wristwatch functions, and to turn that information into a 50-100 word description for each watch. Although the amount of written work was not extensive, the decoding process was extremely time-consuming, and condensing such massive amounts of information was challenging as well. I found myself struggling to understand what half the words meant, which put me under a lot of pressure, as I had also been given a deadline for completing the work by the end of the night. I surprised myself however, by completing the piece early that afternoon, and sent the finished product off to Steven. I felt nervous about my work, but also confident that I had done the best that I could.
I can now add the following skills to my CV: - Ability to meet deadlines - Ability to swiftly condense masses of information
