Week #6

This week was cut short because of the long weekend. However, there wasn’t any written work to be done in the office this week, as everyone had their minds set on the Remix deluxe edition launch party happening this Thursday. So instead of coming into the office on my typical 3 day a week basis, I came for three hours on Tuesday – just helping out with little jobs – and then spent the entire day with Remix on Thursday helping them to get everything organised.
I started the day picking up samples for the fashion show which would be occurring at the party that night. I then met Flora, a previous editorial assistant and even more previous intern at Remix. She now free-lances, and tells me that her job at Remix was the best thing she could have done to prepare her for what she does today with her career in media and events. I asked her about her experiences to gain insight into what my future with Remix might hold, and to take on board any suggestions for improving my performance within the company. I spent the day with flora, putting together goodie bags for the party. I never knew how much time, effort, and patience went into filling goodie bags! First, the delivery of the bags themselves was hours late. This made us resort to lining all the bag contents along tables, desks and floors before the bags arrived. By 3pm we were finally done, and I was sent to get ready for the party which I was told to be back at 6:30 for.
I went to a friend’s place that lived nearby and tried to incorporate all of the fashion I had seen in the office into my own outfit for the night. When I arrived at the venue, I was complimented by the entire team on my choice in outfit. Sweet, I had aced it! I was put on the door with Flora and Isabelle, where we met and greeted hundreds of important people from 7:30 – 10pm. This opportunity allowed for me to meet many big names in the media today and make my first impressions on them. All three of us then gave the floor to the bouncers, and went to enjoy ourselves at our own party.
Steven had given me 6 invitations for my friends on the night, so I joined them upstairs and admired what Remix had put together. We then attended the after party before calling it a night. Isabelle told me to take Friday off and thanked me for all of my work at the event.
I feel like the party finally gave me the opportunity to connect with everyone in the office on a more social level, which in turn has made me feel more confident in being myself in the office – rather than constantly trying to impress everyone. I feel that I made a good impression that night through hard work, offering further help, and socialising with the Remix crew throughout the night.
