Week #10

This week I had a lot of returns, basically just taking back everything I had collected the previous week for the photoshoots that happened over the weekend. I made sure to thank everyone for helping me pick out the items, and tell them how our picks had been incorporated in the shoot. This took up an entire day. I was then assigned three written pieces, one on stolen denim, one on the Met Gala and one on Workshop denim.

When I had the Met gala piece assigned to me, I was also given a deadline – ASAP. I found this rather stressful, as I was assigned the piece just before a closing shift at the pub which meant I could not complete it that night. Then the following day, I had university meetings all morning for group work, an hour or so spent on urgent drop offs for Remix, a launch party for Zoe & Morgan from 2-4, then work again that night until close. I spoke with Steven and explained this, and he told me that I could have the day off on Wednesday to work on it from home and take a break. This was perfect because I had to choose 10 looks from the Met Gala (with consideration to whom Remix tends to usually write about when it comes to celebs), discover the brands they were wearing and who designed them, and write a description for each one – so the extra time allowed me to be fussy about everything rather than messily smashing something out. Once complete, my work was put online, practically word for word.

As for the Zoe & Morgan launch party, I met with Isabelle and Amber there and they introduced me to a lot of people in the industry. I took this as an opportunity to get to know Amber and Izzy better, starting with how they got hired with Remix. They also learnt about me and what I’m doing with my year, and they actually told me they were surprised at how well I was managing the work load of attending university, working with them in the office, and working at the pub each night till all hours while flatting. It felt nice for them to understand and respect what I’ve been juggling on top of Remix. This experience has made me once again feel closer to the crew and more like I’m a part of them as appose to a member on the side lines. We were each given a goodie bag at the end of the evening, with one out of three containing a bottle of Mumm’s champagne. The lady distributing the bags handed me the one with the champagne, so I asked the girls who would like it. They told me it was all mine and that I deserved it. It was a very feel good experience.

As for the Workshop denim piece I had assigned to me, the topic itself did not require much information – it was simply announcing two new pairs of jeans to the Workshop denim line-up. I had to think outside of the box in order to turn this in a longer, more interesting piece of written work. I decided to do some background work on the jean’s material and production. They are ‘selvedge’ jeans, which actually has a bit of a story and history behind it, so I touched on that as I wrote about the new product line-up. This filled out the work nicely and made the post slightly more interesting.

On the Thursday, near the end of the day in the office, I got a text from izzy saying she was stuck in a car park as she had forgotten her bag with all her money in the office. I came to save the day, delivering it to her just outside the parking lot. She was so grateful she gave me Friday off! A nice short week at Remix.
