This week I was informed of two up and coming photoshoots that would be taking place over the weekend. I had to do a lot of pick-ups in order to collect all the clothing attire and accessories that would be used for these occasions. This turned out to be a lot more interesting than I originally expected, as I had assumed that I would simply be collecting items and bringing them back to the office. However, what I discovered was that the actual clothes and pieces of jewellery had not all been selected by Remix, instead, the clients at each store expected me to tell them what we needed for the shoot. This meant that I got to actually look through different clothing collections and jewellery cabinets and select what I wanted to be in the shoot based on the ‘theme’ that Remix had assigned to each shoot. This was an awesome opportunity, and it allowed me to really engage with those working in the store, as we would collaborate in making decisions on what would be in the shoot. I ended up building a lot of relationships this week simply through doing this. I was even invited to an event with Coach (one of Remix’s clients) this week, however I had work and could not find someone to cover my shift.
As for written work, I was assigned a piece on an installation being held at Auckland Art Gallery, a piece on 5 gifts for mother’s day, and a piece on Reebonz – an online shopping site. With the mother’s day piece, I was able to use strategies learnt through my Communications Degree to write persuasively throughout this article. For example I considered the needs of the person who may purchase one of these gifts for their mum, and suggested ways that they could also benefit themselves. For example, buying one product and getting another free – one for you, one for mum. Once again, I provided more gifts than requested so that Isabelle could select her favourites (like with the Coachella piece). Isabelle said I did a great job on this and put it online straight away. As for the Reebonz piece, I chose to get a bit more interactive with this one. I actually signed myself up for membership to see what deals were offered to members, providing my email address so that I could be updated with offers. This ended up working out largely in my favour, as Isabelle wanted me to tie something about mother’s day into this piece, but there wasn’t much to write about other than suggesting using discount codes when purchasing something for mum. However, after writing the piece, I received an email the following day about taking a mother’s day quiz on the Reebonz website and receiving vouchers in return. This was perfect, so I forwarded the email to Isabelle straight away.
This week I have felt a lot more involved socially with the Remix team, with both Isabelle and Steven inviting me to multiple events in the upcoming days. I was given a box of products to take home with me by Isabelle which was lovely of her. Steven invited me to a launch party with the whole team, and Isabelle invited me to another launch party with her and one of the other girls at Remix. I was also invited to attend the fashion shoots over the weekend to see what they’re all about. I was unfortunately unable to attend on the Saturday due to work, and Sunday I could only stop by for 2 hours due to work also. However I was able to get an idea of what fashion shoots are all about in those two hours – a small team of make-up and hair artists, photographers, and lighting specialists all work together with the model at a location suited to the theme, with a lot of playful banter and lunch breaks. A lot more relaxed than I had thought, but that appears to be the vibe at Remix anyway.
The Photoshoot that I attended was being run by Amber Peebles, someone who has recently joined the Remix team as Editor at Large. I was not there long enough to assist her with many jobs other than doing a lunch run for the team, but before I rushed off to work I told Amber to let me know if she ever wants assistance with future work because I would be willing. She seemed keen, so I’m interested to see if I will get any cool jobs assigned to me by her in the future.
